UTHM’s Commitment to Ending Hunger and Promoting Food Security

Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) is committed to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger, by taking active steps to eradicate hunger, ensure access to safe, nutritious, and sufficient food, and promote sustainable agriculture. UTHM believes that food security is a key element of student welfare, academic success, and community sustainability.

Among the initiatives aligned with SDG 2 at UTHM:

  • UTHM Food Bank – An ongoing initiative to provide essential food support for students in need, helping them focus on their studies without the stress of food insecurity. This programme is managed with the involvement of student affairs units and supported by donations and corporate social responsibility (CSR) contributions.
  • Healthy and Affordable Food on Campus – UTHM promotes access to balanced meals by monitoring food quality and price through partnerships with cafeteria operators, in line with the Healthy Cafeteria Programme.
  • Community Urban Farming Projects – UTHM encourages sustainable agriculture through community farming initiatives and edible garden projects at faculties and residential colleges, empowering staff and students to grow their own food and share knowledge with surrounding communities.
  • Research and Innovation – UTHM supports research related to food technology, nutrition, sustainable farming practices, and food waste management, contributing to both academic advancement and real-world solutions.

By integrating education, action, and research, UTHM continuously works towards eliminating hunger on campus and supporting national and global food security agendas.
