UTHM’s Commitment to Ending Poverty

Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) is committed to supporting Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 1, which aims to eradicate poverty in all its forms everywhere. As a higher education institution that values social responsibility, UTHM undertakes various initiatives to ensure equitable access to education, economic opportunities, and welfare support for both the campus and surrounding communities.

Key efforts include:

  • Providing financial aid and scholarships to students from low-income (B40) families, helping to reduce barriers to higher education.
  • University Social Responsibility (USR) programs, including food bank assistance, emergency relief, and sustainable community outreach initiatives aimed at improving local livelihoods.
  • Collaborations with external agencies, industries, government bodies, and NGOs to expand the reach and impact of poverty-alleviation efforts.
  • Community entrepreneurship and skill development projects conducted through UTHM’s training centres and local engagement programmes to generate sustainable income.

Through a holistic and inclusive approach, UTHM strives to ensure that no one is left behind, in line with national and global aspirations to end poverty by 2030.
